Our History

High Country Services in nestled in the beautiful city of Galax VA.  The facility is located at the intersection of Glendale Road and Valley Drive.

Newly built in 2007, our funeral home offers a spacious lobby and hallways, beautifully decorated visitation rooms, each equipped with wall mounted 40inch flat screen tv for displaying Memorial DVD’s, and handicapped accessible bathrooms.

Our 1900 sq. ft Chapel seats 150 comfortably and is appointed with state of the art audio and visual equipment.  It is beautifully decorated with soothing colors and comfortable seating.  There is also a grand piano for musical accompaniment.

Our outdoor facilities include a large, well lit parking lot with ample parking for our families’ convenience, soothing water feature, and well maintained landscaping.

We have the distinct honor of being the only on-site crematorium in the Twin County area.  That distinction allows us an unparalleled opportunity to serve our families that chose cremation here in our own facility.  This means that your loved one is cared for by our very own staff, no additional transportation is needed and care is uninterrupted.

Roger Blevins

Roger Blevins, Funeral Director & Manager

Roger is a 25 year veteran to funeral service. He began his funeral career in July, 1990 at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in North Wilkesboro, NC. He managed Ashelawn Memorial Chapel and Gardens in Jefferson, NC for eleven years. Owned and operated his trade embalming and independent insurance agency for the past nine years. Most recently was contracted to do embalming preparation and funeral services for almost nine years at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, VA from 2004-2013. Currently he holds funeral service license in North Carolina and Virginia, and is certified as a Crematory Operator. He is also a licensed insurance agent in Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. Roger is married to Claudia his life and business partner and together they have four children. Roger is a Navy veteran completing his service in 1988 as a hospital corpsman and held numerous civic positions including Past President of the Jefferson’s Rotary Club. Past Commander of American Legion Post 275, other civic organizations and currently attends New Beginnings Church. Not only does Roger bring years of experience to funeral service but welcomes the opportunity to serve this area of Virginia and North Carolina with quality service, excellence in funeral and cremation care at the most affordable price.

Claudia MacDonald

Claudia MacDonald, Funeral Service Associate

Claudia MacDonald was born in Nicaragua. She is married and has two daughters. Claudia has been an employee of High Country Services since September 2015.

Jessica Talley

Jessica Talley, Office Manager - Community Liaison

Jessica Talley was born in Galax, VA to Rickie and Debbie Hash and was raised in Fries, VA. She attended Grayson County Schools and then went on to graduate from Christian Liberty Academy in Illinois. Jessica and her husband, Greg now reside in Hillsville, VA and have two daughters and two sons. She attends Firehouse Ministries, where she is Lead Ministry Pastor. Jessica serves on Friends of Hillsville Board and helps coordinate Town of Hillsville's Events. She serves as an assistant to the Quatermaster of Hillsville's VFW Post #1115. Jessica is a member of the Women's Auxiliary VFW Post #1115 of Hillsville. Jessica has been in funeral service since 2007.

Chauncey Robinson

Chauncey Robinson, Funeral Service Associate

A long time Galax resident, Chauncey is a 1988 graduate of Galax High School. He attended Wytheville Community College and the New River Valley Police Acedemy. Chauncey has been employeed with the New River Valley Regional Jail since 1998 and with High Country Service since 2009 and is a Certified Crematory Operator. He is a Pastor at White Plains Church, Sparta NC and Redmond Creek in Grayson County VA. Chauncey resides in Galax with his two sons, Jacob and Ethan. Chauncey has been in funeral service since 2008.

Tara Alley

Tara Alley, Administrative Assistant - Funeral Service Associate

Tara Alley was born in Wytheville, VA to Ladonna and Wayne Alley. She is a 2011 graduate of Galax High School. She is obtaining her degree in Police Science at Wytheville Community College. Tara is a member of Bible Baptist Church of Galax. She now resides in Galax, VA. Tara has been in funeral service since 2016.

Jordan  Rice

Jordan Rice, Funeral Service Associate

Jordan Rice was born in Galax, VA to Kenny and Darlene Rice. He is a graduate of Galax High School. Jordan has his Associate's Degree in Business at Wytheville Community College and is pursing his Bachelor's Degree in Business Management. He is a member of Haven of Rest Bible Church. Mr. Rice is also employed at Southwest Farm Supply and enjoys farming. Jordan has been in funeral service since 2016.

Ileta Billings

Ileta Billings, Funeral Service Associate

Ileta Billings was born in Carroll County and has lived in Galax since 1968. She is widowed by Carson Billings and they have one son, Danny Billings. Ileta is a member of the Women's VFW Auxiliary Post #1115 and the Galax Moose Lodge. She is an active member and a member of the Choir of the Galax First Baptist Church. She owns a Flower Business, Flower's by Ileta, specializing in silk and dried flower arrangements. Ileta has been in funeral service since 2008.
